The Board of Directors of King Abdulaziz Public Library (Peking University Branch in the People's Republic of China) headed by the General Supervisor of King Abdulaziz Public Library, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Peking University Branch, His Excellency Mr. Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, held its sixth meeting on the morning of the seventh of December, where the meeting discussed the report of the work and programs of scientific, research and cultural activities of the library branch at Peking University for the year 2022, in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of China, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Harbi, and the President of Beijing Gong Chi Huang and Vice President of Beijing University Sun Qingwei, and members of the Board of Directors.
He also discussed the operational work plan and cultural activities programs of the library branch for the year 2023, and reviewed the estimated budget for the same year with the budget report and financial audit of the branch.
His Excellency Mr. Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar expressed the depth of the historical relations and the distinguished strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People's Republic of China, which coincides with the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the holding of three summits "Saudi-Chinese, Gulf-Chinese, and Arab-Chinese", in the presence of more than 30 heads of state and international organizations, which reflects the importance of holding these summits,
and the regional and international interest they receive.
During the meeting, he noted the role played by the branch in consolidating Arab-Chinese cultural relations and enhancing the cultural presence of the Kingdom in China, noting that the branch works to exchange cultural and knowledge visions through mutual cultural dialogue between Chinese and Arab researchers jointly, promote the Middle East Green Initiative, including sustainable development goals and methods of promoting social and cultural exchanges between China and the Kingdom, and the role of the library in accelerating cultural development converted into Meetings and forums, the branch also works to promote the translation movement between Arab and Chinese cultures, and to implement the project of online cultural exchange through the Chinese-Arab cultural vision.
His Excellency also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the wise leadership for its generous support since the launch of this branch, which was honored by the opening of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the support of His Highness the Crown Prince - may God protect them - who supported this great intellectual cultural project and its effective image of knowledge, civilization and cultural relations between the two countries.
He also thanked His Highness the Minister of Culture for the support received by the branch from the Ministry of Culture, in its various programs and activities, pointing to the launch of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Award for Cultural Cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People's Republic of China, which is an embodiment of the common commitment towards building cultural bridges between the two countries, developing cultural exchange, and enhancing artistic and academic opportunities.
In its meeting, the Council reviewed the cultural plans that the library is working on for the year 2023, in terms of activating activities and events that contribute to the development of general cultural work, technical development of the various library activities, programs and forums, and participation in national events, and cultural programs that it works on under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture.
The branch of the King Abdulaziz Public Library at Peking University in the People's Republic of China is the first branch to be established for the library in Asia and constitutes a great addition to the development of Saudi-Chinese cultural relations that extend for thousands of years through the Silk Road and the trade movement that has been established in the modern era, especially during the recent decades that witnessed the establishment of integrated political and economic relations between the two countries.It also promotes Saudi-Chinese friendship, a bridge for cultural and knowledge communication between the Arab-Islamic and Chinese civilizations, a source of knowledge about the Kingdom for researchers and scholars in China, and support for Arabic language teaching programs in the most prestigious Chinese universities.
The library branch is located on an area of 13,000 square meters, and consists of 6 floors, and includes reading and reading rooms that can accommodate more than 100 researchers and visitors and accommodate more than 200,000 books and knowledge materials with an area of more than 500 square meters, as well as a lecture hall, a specialized exhibition center, a center for Arab-Chinese studies, a library of ancient manuscripts at Peking University, and administrative offices. The branch works to transfer knowledge of the latest technologies and open the horizons of cultural and practical communication by providing sources of knowledge for researchers and scholars.
The branch has presented more than 100 scientific and cultural events and activities since its opening and the number of visitors exceeded 85,000 visitors, including cultural seminars, exhibitions, workshops on building knowledge bases, lectures on library science, reading, digital academic laboratory, China-Arab strategic cooperation, building the Belt and Road, and cultural exchange between Arab and Chinese cultures. And exhibitions of Chinese Arabic calligraphy and other events and occasions.
