Turkey and its regional illusions

I do not know why the Turkish Ministry of Defense is responding to an official statement issued by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs denouncing the threats of the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, against the UAE due to its honorable national positions in Libya and Syria; It is well known, protocolally and diplomatically, that the ministries of foreign affairs in all countries are the party concerned with dealing with the positions and statements issued by other countries, and the issue here is not subject to the rule of regional symmetry, meaning that any positions or matters pertaining to the Ministry of Defense, for example, are a matter of this ministry, and everything that concerns foreign policy and the relations of countries with one another is the inherent competence of the foreign ministries, and the Turkish case is no exception to this rule.

In similar cases, some can claim that there are doves and hawks in the official institutions of countries, and that one institution adopts more extreme and strict positions than another and so on, which means that there is conflict and different positions that push this ministry to silence and the other to speak and reveal its position. But such an interpretation does not apply to the Turkish case, since everyone is dependent on the Sultan, wishes for the latter’s satisfaction and does nothing but obey him, for after all, they are all his entourage and followers, and therefore the Turkish Ministry of Defense’s response to a statement issued by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not seem surprising, it is rather merely a brief event that draws attention in this regard.

The important thing is that the Turkish Ministry of Defense, which is the body in charge of defense affairs, and not the administration of political relations with other countries, considered that the brotherly kingdom of Bahrain’s description to the role of the UAE as “constructive” is an “unfortunate and futile” attempt, indicating that the Turkish reaction towards the positions of the UAE are “right”!and that “the statement issued by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Akar's statements during an interview with Al-Jazeera on July 31, does not reflect the facts.”

The strangest thing is that the Turkish Ministry of Defense, in an official statement, repeated the conclusions of Minister Akar, calling on the UAE and those it described as “governments supporting it” to “return to their senses”, referring to what it described as “brotherhood and friendship existing between the Arab peoples and Turkey.” We do not know which brotherhood and friendship the Turkish Defense Ministry’s statement speaks about, and if this alleged brotherhood is pushing Turkey to occupy the lands of Syria and Libya, attack the sovereignty of Iraq, attack the Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain, and plot continually against Egypt? Is it this brotherhood and friendship that explains the Turkish Sultan’s support for a terrorist organization against which the Arab peoples have turned against and politically ostracized it, and his insisting on providing it with all means of life, and on preserving the hope of its return to life despite the chaos and polarization witnessed by the Arab peoples at the hands of the leaders of this organization, which have reached the point of civil conflict in some of these states?

The Sultan and his entourage are angry at the description of their behavior towards the Arabs as arrogant and colonial, while they are the ones who direct arrows of hostility and historical hatred towards the Arab peoples and their leaders continually. The Turkish Ministry of Defense also denounces the position of the brotherly Kingdom of Bahrain and its support for the UAE in the face of Turkish provocation while the description of the Turkish minister's statements and his saying “Turkey will hold the UAE accountable for what it did in the right place and time” exudes empty arrogance and expresses a despicable colonial approach that is outdated, and the least that could actually be said about this statement is to qualify it as provocative!

Yes, O Turkish generals you who preached this statement: your minister's statements towards the UAE are aggressive and express nothing but a sick malevolent soul, and let you know that you are not a responsible party whose ability can be trusted in judging matters, measuring and appreciating consequences, or fulfilling rights and determining the legitimacy of the concerned parties in the countries. You are basically, those who violate the United Nations Charter and violate the rules of international law, through your occupation of Syrian lands and your illegal military presence in Libya.

A final point: when Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar made his insulting remarks to the United Arab Emirates within the framework of his interview with Al-Jazeera, I fully realized that this televised conversation was nothing but an occasion contrived by the Qatari regime for General Akar to launch some empty threats against the UAE, ignoring the big differences between a leadership that works in the interest of its Arab nation and its peoples and is based on a tremendous balance of regional and international respect and appreciation for its positions and policies, and a regime whose officials are afraid to spend their night in their palaces without the protection of the Turkish gendarmerie!

In fact, I sought some excuse for the Sultan and his entourage for this political delirium and unjustified emotionality that drives them to confusion and pushes them to fabricate crises. The popularity of the Sultan and his party is gradually declining before their eyes due to the military adventurers that ruined the Turkish economy. Peoples want a decent life and do not live on the revival of what these new adventurers call the spiritual borders of the Ottoman Empire, and history will hold you accountable for your mistakes and destructive policies that caused calamities that the Arab peoples will continue to pay for a long time.
